Parti Color Poodles
Most people don't know that the first poodles were either solid black or white and black. They were used for hunting, as retrievers.
The color pattern of the Parti Poodle is as follows. They are a white dog with dark patches of any color. Any marking is acceptable. The preferred pattern of a true Parti is a dark head with white on the muzzle and a white blaze up the forehead to the topknot. Patches can be anywhere on the body, but need to be broken up so as not to form a solid saddle on the back. Excessive freckling in the white part of the coat is considered to be a fault. Nose and eye rims should be dark black. Brown Parti Poodles should have a liver color pigment.A poodle with white feet and a white chest is not a parti, nor is a poodle with cream or apricot shading on the ears or along the back.
Parti Poodles are eligible for and can be registered by AKC (American Kennel Club). Parti Poodles can be shown in agility, obedience and professional grooming competitions. AKC will not allow them to be shown in the conformation ring.
As of Dec.2003, The United Kennel Club has changed their standards and will allow partis and phantoms in the conformation ring |
